The Government is trying to retrain the Filipinos who are
returning jobless from overseas. As the
pandemic hit economies around the globe, Southeast Asian nation is bracing now
for the almost 300,000 Filipino OFW’S who
are unemployed.
Most of them are maids, seamen and caretakers, they are
about to return to the country this year. The government is now offering
programs that are free to reeducate and reskill these workers. Jobs that open
are call center agents, contact tracers, teachers and etc.
5,000 OFW’S who returned the country have already applied fo
the training. In an interview, Labor Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay said “Returning
workers will have to compete with local job seekers but many sectors want to
prioritize them.”
Seafarers can be hired for construction work and some of
them as teachers. They are also the priority in hiring for contact tracers to help control the coronavirus infections.
While the government now is doing their best for these returning
migrants to get a job, some of them are still want to head back overseas when
